The Core Software Systems Team at Symbotic is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Routing Team. While this role is currently remote, when we secure an office in the San Francisco Bay area, you will be expected to adopt your team's work schedule.
What we do
The routing algorithm is one of the core technology advancements that unlock future productivity improvements for the mobile robots and the Symbotic System overall. Our routing team has already enabled 20-25% productivity improvement in the system to date and our engineers continue to push the boundaries of what is possible. The Routing team is part of the Robot Perception and AI team, which is responsible for building our major robot – Symbot.
What you'll do
Own the complete software development lifecycle; defining, prioritizing, designing, and leading implementation and testing of new features within a fast paced, Agile environment.
Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team and ensure project plans and delivery commitments are met.
Manage department resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing to maintain a best-in-class engineering team. Hold regular 1:1s with the team.
Promote and instill best practices in software engineering development.
Collaborating with other engineering teams on planning, design and development for releases.
Coach, mentor, and lead a diverse group of software engineers, helping them to grow technically and professionally.
Help attract and develop top tier talent through recruitment activities and workforce development.
What you'll need
A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (i.e. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)
10 years of experience in Software Development.
Minimum of 5 years spent as a team lead or manager of software development.
Proven ability to deliver high-quality, reliable code implemented on schedule.
Experience leading teams in an Agile development environment.
Knowledge of Object Oriented design. C++ or .NET technologies including C#, WCF and Entity Framework preferred.
Experience with path planning algorithms and multi-agent control.
An understanding of API design and architecture, distributed back-end systems and microservices, or containerization / virtualization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Our Environment
While this role is currently remote, when we secure an office in the San Francisco Bay area, you will be expected to adopt your team's work schedule.
Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
The base range for this position in Bay Area, California is $175,000 - $230,000; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonus and equity may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits based on the position offered.
